  Panama
An outrageous road-trip farce.

Eight actors, with some gender switching. Could be six men and two women or five men and three women. Single unit set.

A middle-aged man becomes frantic when his doctor tells him he will die someday. He embarks with his wife on a cross-country crime spree in desperate search of California scientists who, he believes, will enable him to live forever. Along the way he picks up a pair of young hitchhikers and two senior citizens who may or may not be his parents. They all end up at Happy Days, the new Samuel Beckett theme park at Disneyland, where they discover the true secret of eternal life.

Reviews

Folie is lavishly gifted, firing off non-sequitors and references like Eugene Ionesco rifling through Al Franken’s mail . . . a gut-busting agit-prop fracas.
The Los Angeles Times

[Panama’s] off-the-wall humor is hysterically funny. Like a snowball rolling downhill, the laughter starts slowly but picks up steam, until it sweeps through the audience like an avalanche.
Long Beach Press Telegram

Panama provides a riotous, side splitting, rolling in the aisles evening of theatrical fun that will leave a smile on your face for hours afterward. It will have you screaming with laughter. Make plans to go on this road trip!
The TriCity Times (NJ)

In this fast-paced comedy's spree from off-Broadway playwright Mike Folie, a murderous forty-something speeds towards California in search of the medicine that will grant him eternal life. The Tangent Theater Company's second production [in the 2003 Dublin Fringe Festival] is dedicated madcappery.
The Irish Times

The play's surface is mad-cap, but its meanings run deep. By the end of the evening all of your assumptions have been undermined. Think of it as Philosophy 101 on laughing gas.
